Dear Parents and Students,                                                November 1, 2011

I just want to take this opportunity and thank all the parents that showed up for Parent/Teacher Conferences.  It is my belief that the key to education is parental support and involvement.  Thanks again for supporting your students and our classroom.  I enjoyed meeting and talking to everyone.

We are in our second month of Multiplication.  It is very important for the students to know their multiplication facts.  Multiplication is one of the main building blocks in the 4th grade Math Curriculum.  We will use our facts in our study of Geometry and fractions.  There is no magic potion!!  It takes hard work and a lot of practice.  Students should be studying their facts nightly.  Students have four more weeks to pass all their facts test (0-12) and earn a pizza party!!

In Reading we have moved onto our third unit which is called Our Voices and we are working on Persuasive Writing.  I will be posting some of our writing samples very soon.

In Social Studies we will begin studying the United States Government.  In Science we are moving into the study of the human body.  The digestive system is always one of my favorite things to teach!!

Red Ribbon Week was a great success.  It was really encouraging to see so many students support the Red Ribbon cause by wearing red to our Halloween Party instead of a costume.  I think that speaks very loudly to the type of students we have hear at Southeast.  I'm very proud.

Our class is working on reading 100 books!!  We hope to have a Read-n-Feed before Christmas Break.  We are working on our goal of 200 books by the end of the school year.  Our class is participating in Scholastic's "Classroom Cares" program.  For every 100 books our classroom reads, Scholastic will donate 100 books to underprivileged schools.

Our class is also trying to reach 20 days of perfect attendance by the end of November.  Be sure to check out the Classroom News and What's Happening links to keep up with our progress on reaching our goals as well as with what is happening in our classroom.
